Asset Building Champions Meeting

On Wednesday, October 14th, the Asset Building Champions from the elementary and middle schools in town gathered to talk about their plans for the school year as well as discuss asset building events that had already happened.  

It was a great meeting with new ideas and a discussion for ways to build more assets in kids through the Asset Building Classroom initative.  We look forward to seeing all the great things planned for the rest of the year! More »

Be in the Know Forum

On Wednesday, October 14th the STEPS Coalition held the first Be in the Know Forum on the CT Social Host Law and the dangers of underage drinking with Attorney Tony Sheffy, Dr. George Skarvinko, Lieutenant Steve Elliott and Officer Chad Butler from the Southington Police Department.

STEPS Youth Support the Southington Red Ribbon Rally

Every year, the STEPS Youth Committee and Youth Council support the Southington Drug Task Force's Red Ribbon Rally.  This year, the Youth Committee met to create their posters for the rally, giving examples of things they'd rather do than drugs.

STEPS Youth Committee members like playing volleyball, singing, swimming and making good choices instead of doing drugs. More »

Lock It or Drop It

Calendar House Health Fair

On Tuesday, October 6th, staff members, Kelly Leppard and Meredith Fenwick, set up a table at the Calendar House Senior Health Fair to talk to seniors about the new Lock It or Drop It Campaign and using the Prescription Drop Box that is located in the lobby of the Southington Police Department.

Apple Harvest Weekend

On Friday, October 2nd, the STEPS Youth Council met at the Apple Harvest Festival to hang up signs asking people please keep the festival smoke-free!

Prevention Coordinator, Kelly Leppard,  joined the students posting the signs in the common areas as well as on different booths around the festival.  We appreciate everyone's cooperation trying to keep the festival a smoke-free one! More »
