2016 Wayton Open Tennis Tournament

2016 WAYTON OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENT—July 8-17 at Southington High School.

The 9th annual event has become a great recreational yet competitive community tennis tournament in Southington. All proceeds benefit The Wayton Open Scholarship Fund. Each player receives a t-shirt, wristband, player schedule, tennis balls, and water for every match. More »

STEPS Advisory Board members visited 91 Southington liquor permitees to give them each a copy of the 2016 ID Checking Guide book. These books list every valid license in the U.S. More »

Thank YOU John Dobbins!

Although saying goodbye to our board members isn't fun, we are so excited for John as he retires from our board and his 36 year career as a pharmacist!  

Back in 2009, John organized Southington's Medication Return Program at the Southington Water Department that ran for 5 years, collecting thousands of pounds of unwanted and expired medications. Then in 2012, John took the lead in getting our Medication Drop Box installed in the lobby of the Southington Police Department. More »

STEPS Visits the LOB in Hartford!

On Monday, February 29th, members of the STEPS Coalition and other local coalitions traveled to Hartford to meet with legislators regarding the future of marijuana laws in Connecticut. The event was sponsored by CAPP (Connecticut Association of Prevention Professionals).

Healthy Family Funfest 2016

On Sunday, February 28th, members of the Southington STEPS Coalition had a booth at the Healthy Family Funfest held at the AquaTurf in Southington.  At the booth, members distributed flyers for the upcoming Be in the Know forums as well as let community members know about the Medication Drop Box, located in the lobby of the Southington Police Department.  For more information about the drop box, click here.

Free Self-Defense Class for Southington Women & Girls

Empowering Women to Escape Alive, a free self-defense training class for Southington women and girls 15 and over will be held at Southington High on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

This program is a partnership between Jane Doe No More and East Coast Training Systems and is being sponsored by 5 local organizations; Youth services, the Southington Police Union, Beacon Pharmacy, Progressive Pathways and STEPS. More »
