On September 9th, Morgan Maccione, a representative of the STEPS Youth Council, presented STEPS’ Substance Abuse Action Counil’s Photovoice Project at their Annual Meeting. ツThe photovoice project focused on youth answering the following three questions:

  1. What issues do youth face in relation to underage drinking?
  2. How do youth contribute to prevention efforts?
  3. What fun alternatives can youth participate in rather than underage drinking?

Each participant was given a disposable camera to take pictures around town with these questions in mind and then created posters with their photos to answer the questions. ツCatherine Myers, Carson Stifel, Matt Geary, and Julia Brilla were the other students involved in the project. ツThe group did a great job and was a wonderful representation of the youth we have involved in prevention efforts within the Southington community.

Also at the Annual Meeting, STEPS was awarded the Youth Education Award. Kelly Leppard and Jim Garstang attended the meeting to accept the award. ツOn behalf of STEPS, we truly appreciate the recognition of the hard work that our coalition does and the way the Southington Community has come together to help keep our kids safe.
