Be in the Know Forum

On Wednesday, October 14th the STEPS Coalition held the first Be in the Know Forum on the CT Social Host Law and the dangers of underage drinking with Attorney Tony Sheffy, Dr. George Skarvinko, Lieutenant Steve Elliott and Officer Chad Butler from the Southington Police Department.

Attorney Sheffy spoke on a few different scenarios that could arise when parents might be out of town and unsupervised minors decide to have friends over with alcohol. ツHe explained the different consequences that could be applied to the situations with both the CT Social Host Law and civil litigation.

Officer Butler and Lieutenant Elliott spoke on what the police would do if called to the scenes Attorney Sheffy described and the different types of problems that could arise for the minors at the party. ツDr. Skarvinko then spoke on the adolescent brain and how it could be effected by the consumption of alcohol.

The night was very informative and we hope those that attended walked away with new information they can pass along to other parents.

A special thank you to the forum participants for providing such useful information to our community and being continuing resources. ツWe look forward to hosting this event again in the near future on underage drinking and other various topics.
